Huawei set to announce Kirin 990 on September 9, Just before the Mate 30 Launch

We have seen that Huawei use to launch its Mate series smartphone with a new chipset every year. The Chinese smartphone maker started this launch-flow with the Mate 8 when it launched with the Kirin 950. Following the same life-cycle, prior to launch of Mate 30, the new Kirin 990’s launch date has been announced.

Huawei has officially released a 10-second teaser video confirming the name of its upcoming mobile chipset and its launch date. The industry will see the new Kirin 990 on September 9th, 2019. That’s when the company has set for the IFA event in Berlin.

It follows company’s recently-previous year-end launches — Mate 8 – Kirin 950, Mate 9 – Kirin 960, Mate 10 – Kirin 970, and Mate 20 – Kirin 980.

The teaser video, without hinting any details about the processor, tells that the chip will focus on 5G. The new chip will be featuring Balong 5000 5G modem to take on Qualcomm’s current flagship offering.

According to reports, the TSMC manufactured Kirin 990 will be based on the 7nm FinFET/EUV manufacturing process. Other reports that the new Kirin 990 may feature 4K recording at 60fps for the first time.

It’s worth noting here that the teaser appeared on YouTube just after the Chinese tech giant was granted another 90-day extended reprieve from the US trade ban.

Considering Huawei’s previous approach of adopting latest ARM tech to equip in its chipsets, It’s also believed that the Kirin 990 may feature the latest Cortex-A77 CPU cores and Mali G77 GPU.
