TikTok responds to Ban in Pakistan, insisting it has committed to local laws

TikTok has responded to the ban in Pakistan saying that it is committed to following the laws in the markets where the video-sharing application is offered.

ByteDance, the company behind the popular video-sharing app, TikTok, said in a statement that it was “committed to following the law” in the regions or markets where its application is offered. The company responded to the ban shortly after it was officially announced by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

TikTok said that it was it’s regularly communicating with the PTA and continuing to work with them.

“We have been in regular communication with the PTA and continue to work with them. We are hopeful to reach a conclusion that helps us continue to serve the country’s vibrant and creative online community,” the company said in a statement.

The company’s spokesperson said that TikTok believes “feeling safe helps people feel comfortable expressing themselves openly and allows creativity to flourish.”

“We have robust measures to help ensure a safe and welcoming platform for users, including easy mechanisms to report content that violates our terms of use and comprehensive Community Guidelines, which are available in Urdu,” it added.

PTA, on Friday, put a ban to the popular video-sharing app, TikTok, over “immoral and indecent” content. The authority said that it had given the company a considerable time to respond and comply with the instructions about moderating unlawful video content. Finally, for the application being failed to “fully comply” with the instructions, the authority put an end to the video-sharing app.
