Tesla will reportedly discuss EV launch in Pakistan with PM Imran Khan

According to recent revelation, the Tesla executives will meet with Prime Minister Pakistan to discuss investment opportunities for electric cars in the Pakistani market.

Javed Afridi, the owner of Haier Pakistan and Peshawar Zalmi (PSL) who recently brought MG Motors in the country, revealed that Tesla might follow for electric vehicles (EV) market in the country.

According to a senior journalist, Sabir Shakir, Afridi has met with Tesla executives twice previously. He said that Tesla has shown interest to Afridi in investment in Pakistan, and they are expected to meet with PM Imran Khan sooner or later.

Shakir also included that the reason behind is only to offer a better environment-friendly alternate to customers in the country.

Javed Afridi had also teased its followers on social media earlier with a small text Tesla in Pakistan.

Pakistan has previously announced the plan to launch electric vehicles for environmental and financial benefits. The Premier approved the policy in November to push EV for cutting air pollution and curbing climate change.

The goal is to have in the market, a half a million EV motorcycles and rickshaws in addition to more than 100,000 EV cars, busses, and trucks over the next five years. The target is to have 30% of all vehicles running on electricity by 2030.

If Tesla, the world’s biggest EV company, decides to invest in the country, it would be assisting Pakistan to achieve the goals. Critics, however, have warned that it will rather take several years to show environmental and financial benefits.
