WhatsApp soon to allow you hide your “Last Seen” from specific contacts

Users will be allowed to hide their Last Seen, Profile Photo, and About from selected contacts

The Facebook-owned WhatsApp has recently been seen improving privacy settings more often than before to allow users to customize it according to their needs. The latest news is about making “Last seen” more flexible.

For years, WhatsApp has offered you a couple of privacy settings which include Last Seen, Profile Photo, About, and Status. The first three settings offer to choose from three options – Everyone, My Contacts, or Nobody. The “Status” doesn’t have the option “Everyone” meaning that it’s purposely built for known contacts. However, the company later added a new option “My Contacts Except…” to “Status”. That’s what is now coming to all other privacy settings.

With the new “My Contacts Except…” option, WhatsApp on your Android or iOS smartphones will soon offer you hide your Last Seen, Profile Photo, and/or About from selected contacts. WABetaInfo said in a recent blogpost.

You will be able to restrict some of your contacts to see your “Last Seen” activity time. Also, note that WhatsApp’s reverse action of privacy applies to this option as well. That means if you hide your “last seen” from specific contacts, you won’t be able to see theirs as well.

The new option “My Contacts Except…” will also be added to other privacy settings – Profile photo, and About. Right now

Though WhatsApp is currently the most used instant messaging app, it has never been proactive to make changes regarding privacy. Not until its recent privacy terms backfired on it and the rival messaging services like Telegram and Signal got a huge push in their userbase. Hence, WhatsApp recognised the need to time and started making little but more important changes in the messaging app.
