Instagram Link Sticker allows everyone to share links in a Story, regardless of follower count

  • Instagram has officially removed restrictions to use a link in stories.
  • No followers count restriction applies to using Link Sticker.
  • The new Link Sticker also works on the cross-posted Facebook Story.

Instagram has now allowed everyone to add links to their stories, the feature that was previously restricted to only those accounts that had 10,000 followers or more.

Facebook’s (sorry, Meta’s) photo-sharing app long had a feature to add a “swipe-up” link into an Instagram story but it was only limited to verified accounts or the accounts that have at least 10k followers. The company recently had planned to ditch the feature replacing it with the new Link Sticker option within Stories. However, it was never disclosed that the new Link Sticker will be available to everyone.

A day before the company changed its name to Meta, Instagram announced in a blog post it’s expanding sharing links in stories to everyone. Adam Mosseri, the Instagram head, shared that the company has launched the new Link Sticker globally and it will allow everyone to share links in a story without any restriction of follower-count.

Mosseri told that team received a lot of feedback over the years on limiting links to accounts with over 10,000 followers. They just heard the community and has offered the feature to everyone.

When we first introduced Stories links, the feature was limited to verified accounts or those with a certain number of followers. We’ve heard from the rest of our community that they also want to share things that matter with their friends and family. Whatever you’re into, from cooking to volunteering or shopping, you now have a space to share in Stories — regardless of your account size.

How to Add Links to Your Stories

It’s very simple. You just need to use the Link sticker to add a link to your Instagram story. When people tap on the sticker, they’ll be redirected to the link you specify. Follow the steps below to get it going.

  • Create a new story on Instagram or share anything from your gallery to Instagram Story.
  • Select the “Sticker” tool from the top navigation bar
  • Choose the “Link” sticker
  • Type your desired link and then tap “Done”
  • Place the sticker on your story by dragging it like other story elements. You can tap on the sticker to see colour variations too.
  • That’s it, share the story as you normally would do.

Links Sticker also works on Facebook Stories

Though Facebook Stories do not yet have Link Sticker, if you cross share a story through Instagram, its Link Sticker also goes along with the story over Facebook. That only works if you have a Facebook account linked to your Instagram account. So, give it a try.

Also, note that the link only works on the Facebook mobile app and not on the PC browser.
