TECNO Mobile to use Samsung’s RGBW Sensor in Camon 19 Camera

TECNO Mobile, at MWC 2022, has announced it will use Samsung’s RGBW color filter sensor in its upcoming Camon 19 series. The series will be launching in Pakistan in the second quarter of 2022.

The upcoming Camon 19 series will be equipped with a special RGBW sensor that adds a white sub-pixel to the current RGB array. This will improve light sensitivity, especially in low-light situations.

The company announced in a webinar last month that it will be working with Samsung to bring this latest RGBW Camera Sensor to their phones.

The new Tecno phones will be using Samsung’s ISOCELL RGBW sensor that adds a white pixel to the common R/GG/B (red, green, and blue) pixels. The addition of the white pixel will improve the sensor’s overall sensitivity to light which will help produce better low light photographs. It claims lesser background glare in lit environments and more balanced contrast levels in darker backgrounds.

According to TECNO, the use of a new RGBW sensor for its 64MP camera will increase the light input of the CMOS sensor in the upcoming Camon 19 smartphone. In a result, the users will have brighter pictures and improved quality by creating ultra-clear details without impacting contrast in dark and backlit backgrounds.

The brand also noted that the light-intake can be further enhanced by an additional 30pc with the use of TECNO’s Glass + Plastic (G+P) technology.

Kelvin Zeng, CEO of TECNO Mobile Pakistan said,

“TECNO shall be bringing some of the greatest technological devices from its Camon and Phantom series in Pakistan this year. After our first Borderless AMOLED – Phantom X and the Gimbal Technology Camon 18 Premier, we are looking to expand the mobile technology horizon for our Pakistani consumers. The fans will not have to wait too long as we shall be launching the RGWB Technology phones in the country pretty soon.”

How’s RGBW is different from the traditional RGGB CMOS sensor?

As appeared from the term RGBW, the sensor adopts a new pixel arrangement and introduces a white pixel into existing red, green, and blue pixels. The new white pixel is more sensitive to light and without affecting the existing RGB pattern, it’s said to be 1.7 times better than the green color filter.

The new RGBW sensor is considered as the a major change to mobile phone cameras and, according to claims, allows to match standalone digital cameras.
