WhatsApp seems to start rolling out a long-awaited feature to “hide online” status to the beta testers soon. Earlier this month the feature was soon to be released by the messaging platform as the iOS screenshot was shared along. This time the screenshot is from an Android smartphone.
The folks at WABetaInfo today reported a recent beta version 2.22.16.12 (beta) to carry the new feature. However, at the time of writing, an even newer version 2.22.16.13 (beta) is available from Play Store but the feature is still not available in the application.
Since the feature is currently under development and it’s not ready, it is not available to users. WABetaInfo has got their hands on a preview of the screen that hints how WhatsApp has planned to deliver the feature through an existing experience.
According to the above screenshot, the option to hide online status is packed within the existing option of “Last seen” which is now “Last seen and online”. Not finalized yet, the option may soon be available from Account > Privacy > Last seen and online in WhatsApp.
Users would be able to choose “Who can see when I’m online”. The options under this setting will follow the options you choose under “Who can see my last seen” or you can choose to show your online status to everyone – that is actually what we all are currently using.
