YouTube “Playables” Rolling Out to Premium Subscribers

Google seems to have expanded the rollout of “Playables” on YouTube, introducing a novel feature that enables users to engage in online gaming directly within the YouTube platform, negating the necessity for desktop or mobile app installations.

This experimental feature is currently exclusive to YouTube Premium subscribers, offering them immediate access to a variety of games seamlessly embedded within the streaming platform. Initially started in September 2023 for a limited user group, it is now gradually expanding to a wider audience.

YouTube Premium subscribers involved in the experimental phase will receive notifications prompting them to turn on the “Play games on YouTube” experiment. For those without an invitation, you can still look for the feature in your YouTube Premium Benefits page. If it’s there, you can turn it on to start experiencing the new feature.

Once activated, a distinct ‘Playables’ shelf will appear on the Home page or within the Explore menu on both desktop and mobile platforms. Click it to enter into a range of interactive games and immersive experiences seamlessly integrated into the YouTube platform.

Embark on a gaming journey with titles such as Scooter Extreme, State.io, Brain Out, 8 Ball Billiards Classic, Color Burst 3D, Stack Bounce, Daily Crossword, Daily Solitaire, Color Pixel Art, Carrom Clash, Cannon Balls 3D, Basketball FRVR, Angry Birds Showdown, Cube Tower, and Crazy Caves.

The new “Playables” games will be accessible on the YouTube website using web browsers on desktop or on YouTube Mobile app on both Android and iOS platforms.

The Playables experiment is set to conclude on March 28. While the exact launch date for the broader user base remains undisclosed, one thing is evident—being a YouTube Premium subscriber is the key to accessing this gaming experience until it becomes universally available.
