Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710: A strategy to reach every type of customers

Today Nokia has announced its very first two Windows Phone OS based devices, Lumia 800 (the high-end smartphone) and Lumia 710 (an affordable smartphone). Well this has always been the main strategy of Nokia to launch new devices to reach every type of customers taking from budget devices to the high-end device. Which actually is a good thing to make more of its fans/customers happy with the latest devices. Same goes with these new Windows Phone devices, the Nokia Lumia 800 is costly with more impression to its build quality and on the other hand Nokia Lumia 710 is an affordable device with a bit lower quality materiel used to make it less expensive – Not actually that lower quality at all but lower than Lumia 800. The hardware in both device are much identical at some places.

Nokia Lumia 800: The Design at its Perfect

“The design at its perfect”, yes we can say that as it’s pretty identical to the one of Nokia N9 and you know well we’ve been with Nokia N9 for quite some time now. If you don’t then go! check out a set of reviews here. You will hardly found any one who hasn’t praised Nokia N9 about for its design. However there are a few changes and additions in Lumia 800 e.g. the dual-led is placed above the lens and a dedicated camera shutter key has been given which isn’t present in N9.

Nokia Lumia 800 will cost €420 excluding any local taxes and subsidies.  It will be available from November in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK, across 31 operators. Other territories including Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan will see the Nokia Lumia 800 before the end of the year, with even more markets following in early 2012.

With technical/hardware aspects, Lumia 800 somewhere matches the Nokia N9 and at some other place it matches its younger brother the Lumia 710. Counting with processor speed and type Windows Phone, Lumia 800 tops the MeeGo packed N9 with 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor. N9 is having only 1GHz with ARM Cortex-A8. But when talking about RAM, Nokia kept the Lumia 800 half level down at 512MB as N9 is powered by 1GB of RAM.

The most identical part between both the Lumia 800 and N9 is the camera. Both have the Carl Zeiss eye of 8 mega pixels, providing video capturing capability of 720p@30fps. Both have the larger aperture as f/2.2 (even larger than N8 having f/2.8.)

One thing we are not sure of is the glass used on Lumia 800. No where at Nokia’s official specifications pages (including developer site, consumer product page or promotional Lumia pages) is mentioned about Gorilla Glass. So we are currently not considering that Lumia 800 will be having support of tough Gorilla Glass as Nokia N9 does. So N9 is step ahead in this matter.

Nokia Lumia 710: Affordable but Powerful Inside

Lumia 710 is not actually up to the standard of Nokia Lumia 800 which is really an awesome design but Lumia 710 is also a good package and having almost same major key elements in hardware as they are in Lumia 800.

Like Lumia 800, Lumia 710 also is having the power of same 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor with dedicated 3D graphics hardware accelerator. Also the RAM is same 512MB as it is in Lumia 800. 8GB on-board memory is half lower than Lumia 800’s 16GB memory but Lumia 710 will also be having 25GB of SkyDrive.

Another thing which is classed lower in Lumia 710 is the TFT display unlike Lumia 800 having AMOLED display but at least ClearBlac display is still there in Lumia 710 so it will be quite better viewing capability in Lumia 710 than normal TFTs

Lumia 710 being an affordable low cost value of €270, will have wide range of colours for back covers. The device itself comes in two colours on front, the white and the black

Nokia Lumia 710 will be available from the end of 2011, and will first appear in Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan before becoming available in further markets in 2012. The Nokia Lumia 710 is expected to cost around €270 excluding local taxes and subsidies.
