So most waited firmware update release PR1.1 has been thrown over to the world out. Nokia N8 now can see this update Over The Air (OTA). Later this week Navifirm got hands on this update. Any one of you experienced with Navifirm might have known that PR1.1 release was first available under Quality Assurance list of firmware updates in Navifirm which was removed or restricted later by Nokia and vanished from Navifirm.
Now that the release has been aired officially for the Nokia N8, you can just upgrade your Nokia N8 Over The Air right from your device as well as via Ovi Suite. It’s recommended that you use Ovi Suite to upgrade it fully.
Earlier video posted by PhoenixBh was just showing that there was no big update with PR1.1 as it was being considered before. It’s most disappointing now that it turned to be just a minor firmware update with bug fixes and phone stability improvement and some apps upgrades. see the list below
Nokia Conversations has already informed about the detail of the updates in new release as follows
- Meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations;
- Maps integration in email, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite.
- For Nokia N8 users:
a. New Quick Office 6.4 editor version, which offers editing possibilities and allows zooming in & out in Word documents.
b. Three high quality games will also be preloaded on new devices – Need for Speed Shift, Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire. (In some countries, Need for Speed is replaced with Asphalt 5). For current N8 users, these are available for free from Ovi Suite & Ovi Store.
As disclosed by Nokia Conversations. these all changes were seen in the new device software release except the games in 3.b. I didn’t get any one of the games with this update.
The update via OTA was sized around 7MB only. But it was advised straightly on the device to use PC instead to download the full upgrade packages. Of course the update was a lot bigger than the one via OTA.

Here is the Nokia N8 with the latest device software release PR1.1 version 013.016
1- The dialer has been updated to be rotated as portrait or landscape.
2- Quick Office has been added in Nokia N8 with fully editing features along with major improvements showing the capabilities of Symbian^3 e.g. pinch zoom on documents.
Other improvements are good and noticeable stability but I am not yet done with the Maps integration. Will look into it what we got and will inform here.
