Nokia Battery Monitor 2.0 – Qt based battery monitor – Review

Nokia had already released a version of Battery Monitor (v1.3) earlier than now which was good in informing you about the battery status in detail in your S60v5 devices as well as Symbian^3 ones .

But now this has been renewed completely in Qt specially for Symbian^3 smartphones so that you could experience even more better performance with important new features e.g. power saving, battery health analysis etc.

Nokia Battery Monitor shows you application battery life estimates and energy usage statistics. Version 2.0 also provides power saving features and battery health analysis. Please uninstall previous versions of Battery Monitor before installing.

Whatever the device is, either a laptop, a net book, or a smartphone. If it requires battery to power it up, I always looked for a utility to check and monitor the performance of the battery. Because it’s always good to have an eye on your device if it’s living up to its age after charge or you get to be ready for purchasing a new one.

Following are the features with the screenshots.

ESTIMATES

page shows the usage time estimates for selected applications. Tap on estimate to select which items are shown on homescreen widget. Tap and hold to change estimates in the list. Average use is the overall usage time estimate based on your usage history. Background is the estimate for no active usage (screen saver only). Time elapsed from the last charging is shown in the bottom. Estimate of remaining charging time is shown when the charger is connected.

I was really pleased to see such a utility for my Symbian^3 smartphone when first it was released in previous version then why won’t I feel better with this new version which is having an improved user interface (UI). Qt really made it slick in design featuring quick swype interface to switch pages (See 4th image from following).

STATISTICS

page shows a list of the most energy hungry applications in your device. Daily, weekly and all time average lists can be scrolled by swiping. Background consumption in the bottom of the list indicates the energy consumption of the device in standby (when the screen saver is active). This includes consumption of all the background applications and services, like always online email. Statistics can be reset from Options->Settings.

POWER SAVE

page allows you to switch the device Power Saving Mode on and off. Power saving mode activation will switch the device to GSM mode and changes various settings to optimize battery life. Display settings are the most important and they can also be changed separately. Threshold for automatic power saving mode activation can be defined. Automatic activation can be disabled in Options->Settings.

SETTINGS

Options > Settings provides the following options for configuration of the application.

If still didn’t download the app, you are missing it. Download links are provided just below.
