Gallery and Camera

It’s pretty obvious from the screens below and you can see that gallery is in 3 x 4 grid view and only 3 rows are visible fully while the 4th one is hiding under the on-screen option buttons. And that’s the only view without having an option to change it. But you do have an option to rotate the screen view manually. There is an option to switch between Portrait and Landscape modes. Due to not having an accelerometer in the hardware, the features like auto-rotate will not be available throughout the system.

Picture preview is also very simple with a few set of quick options like edit, share, delete and zoom. Edit feature is namely supporting functions including rotate, crop, applying effects, warping, framing, adding clip arts, putting text, brightness and contrast control as well as an auto image enhancement function.

The social networking integration is also nice to see within the gallery where you can directly share pictures to the registered social networks e.g. facebook and twitter.

Camera UI is also very simple with a capture button and a few onscreen buttons that hide on a certain duration after inactivity. Quick options include zoom-in/out, Still/Video switch, Go to Gallery, and self-timer. Full settings include effects (sepia, greyscale, negative), frames, white balance, self-timer, sequence shooting (burst shots at 3, 4 and 5 frames) and exposure settings right from the camera interface.

Video recording supports a few functions like white balance, muting/unmuting microphone, applying effects, setting exposures and self-timer.

That was the software user interface for camera but what 3.2 megapixels camera actually brings out of Asha 303. Here are a few sample shots taken from Asha 303. I couldn’t manage to test it fully but you can check the samples just for a little test in low light indoor and outdoor as well as a few outdoors in full light. There is also a fixed-focus test.

Camera Still Samples

Following three shots were taken outdoor during the sunset. You can notice really a lot of noise in dark and shadow areas but the detail is fine with such a small sensor. You might not see the actual colors due to the low light condition. So we have the same shots taken in full light around 12PM, in the second line below.

Well yes the following shots really show some good results that the camera in Asha 303 could have produced in full shiny day light. Colors and detail is still fine and the pictures are less noisy. Did you notice almost fully grained picture of the tree in pic 4 below? Well that tells you would not be able to take clear pictures of objects that are far way and are really little.

You might want to see how does a fixed-focus camera perform in a field test. See following picture? well that’s a good example to show that focus will never find the objects in front of the camera and will always take shots with a focus fixed at a position. You can see easily that in the following photo the closer leaves are just out of focus and the leaves which are far away are clear. But the fixed-focus camera in Asha 303 is an EDoF (Extended Deapth of Field) really can take clear objects in an extended field of the view.

Following shots are just a try to take closer pictures while the fixed-focus camera in Asha 303 really can’t take macro shots. However the following are not macros anyway but a bit closer shots really produced some good results that we can read letter which are less blurry and closer to the camera.
