Pakistan – excellently mapped country on Google MapMaker; Says VP of Engineering, Google Maps

pakistan-google-mapsWe all know that Pakistan, on Google Maps and Map Maker, has a prominent mark for making detailed and quality maps – thanks to all contributors who made Pakistan fully visible on Google Maps. Pakistan has also been featured for many reasons on Google Maps Blog. Today comes another featuring comments by VP of Engineering, Google Maps.

“Pakistan is an excellent example of a country who’s almost fully mapped for mapmaker.” said Brian McClendon – VP of Engineering, Google Maps. while speaking for “The Next Dimension of Google Maps”. While showing a time lapse video of Faisalabad on Google Maps – one of the big cities of Pakistan, he also added “This is one of the best examples I’ve ever seen. Over four year this one went from a naked map to something that’s more detailed than almost any American city that I know of.”

Going into detail of the mapped city shown on the slide show, the Google VP said “We have labels in different languages, we have local business listings, we have parks and bike paths.” And as above I mentioned that Map Maker is a platform where users contribute with their knowledge, Google VP did add that “The people who are experts in their area, really able to add detail that’s not availble else where. And thisn’t Pakistan, many other countries put the best maps available through the Map Maker”

The system has even got better on Google Map Maker and it allows to work with a lot of different features and tools.

Here is what Faisalabad looked like on Google Maps in January 2008.
