Google has officially released Android 5.0 aka Lollipop a few days ago. With the official release of Android 5.0, Google have also released preview builds for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 too. Do you want to get it now on your Nexus 5. Here is the detailed guide of how to flash Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Nexus 5. Also get all the material design Google Apps below.

Install Android Lollipop Developer Preview

If you have already have developer preview of Android 5.0 Lollipop installed on your device then skip to the Get Google Material Design Apps below

Step 1: First you need to root your phone and for this the best and the easiest method is too point your phone’s browser to Towel Root and download the file “towelroot.apk”. Install the apk open it and hit “make it ra1n” and when all finished open the Play Store and install Super SU…

Step 2: Now you need to install the custom recovery, i would recommend the best is to install TWRP recovery. Open the Play Store and install “Flashify”  Open > Recovery Image > Download TWRP > Choose the latest version (Currently 2.8.0.1) > Yup!.

Step3: Download the N5 TWRP Backup LPX13D > Unzip it to the root of the sdcard (or somewhere you can find it easy)..

Step 4: Reboot into TWRP recovery. Turn off phone > Hold Vol Down + Power (You’ll be taken to bootloader) > Tap Vol Up or Down twice (either way works) until you get the option Recovery Mode then press the Power Button.

Step 5: Create a backup. To do this select Backup > Mark System + Data + Boot.

Step 6: Move the backup of the LPX13D Preview into the backup folder in TWRP that you just made. Advanced > File Manager > sdcard > Find your N5 TWRP Backup LPX13D file > Click on it > Click Select on the bottom right > Move > sdcard > TWRP > BACKUP > click on the folder in there which should be a bunch of numbers and letters > Click Select again.

Step 7: Restore the LPX13D backup (Warning: This will reset your phone). Restore > Select the LPX13D backup > Swipe to Restore.

Step 8: Reboot and here you go the new Android 5.0 Lollipop is ready for you ;)

Now the most interesting part is that if you want to try all the new Google Material Design apps that are coming on the final release of Android 5.0 on November 3, you have to follow some more steps and here are:

Step 1: One of the xda developers member named sykopompos managed to get the preview build with all new Google apps and with some more enhancements created a custom rom over the base of LPX13D. Download the custom rom from Androidfilehost and save it to the appropriate folder..

Step 2: Reboot into TWRP recovery. Turn off phone > Hold Vol Down + Power (You’ll be taken to bootloader) > Tap Vol Up or Down twice (either way works) until you get the option Recovery Mode then press the Power Button.

Step 3: Wipe > Advanced Wipe> Select Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Cache and then Swipe to Wipe…

Step 4: Install > Choose your downloaded zip file and install it…

Step 5: Reboot and first boot may take 10 to 15 minutes so please sit back and relax and enjoy..
