Microsoft Cortana ported to Android by Hackers

While Apple may have introduced the Siri, a digital voice assistant  in their iOS devices, Microsoft brought their own digital assistant in the Windows Phone devices – “Cortana”. A group of Italian hackers, calling themselves OrangeSec, claim to have Cortana ported to Android platform.

The team named it as “Portaña”. While disclosing that he project is not at the good state and it has limitations like a user has to be online to get assistance. As well, She can only speak Italian for now.

As Slash Gear understands “The reason Portaña must be online to work is that while the system is running on an Android device, it is still communicating with Microsoft’s back-end servers. This means that the assistant can’t be used to control or integrate with Android features like the original Cortana does when running on Windows Phone. The hackers say they got Portaña to work through a combination of hardware proxies, custom SSL certificates, and DNS spoofing. In other words, it’s messy.”

The same team has built up a home automation system with Cortana Proxy which is not in a good state but seems interesting.

It’s been reported that the Microsoft is already working to bring its digital voice assistant Cortana to Android and iOS platforms according to Reuters. We don’t have an idea that how consumers will appreciate as a third party hacks into it for the same reason.
