Steve Jobs and Knoll Brothers to be inducted into Photography Hall of Fame

International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum (IPHF) has announced a number of new names to be added into its 2016 class of Photography Hall of Fame in honor of its 50th anniversary which includes not only the individuals directly related to art and photography but also the visionaries, according to the hall of fame, “who embody the spirit, artistry and innovation of modern photography.”

IPHF selects total of eight inductees for 2016 which include documentary filmmaker – Ken Burns, 20th century pro photographer – Ernst Haas, portrait photographer – Annie Leibovitz, digital printing creator and photographer – Graham Nash, photojournalist – Sebastião Salgado. The original creators of Adobe Photoshop, John Knoll and Thomas Knoll are also included along with the famous Steve Jobs of Apple.

The most notable inductee this year is Steve Jobs, the co-founder, chairman and ex-CEO Apple. The late ex-Apple boss is least from photography world to be selected for induction list, however IPHF believes – like many around the world, that Jobs at his company made photography more accessible to people than ever.

“Steve helped create products that revolutionized the creative world and became essential tools for designers, filmmakers, music producers and photographers,” briefed the Hall of Fame in Jobs profile. “Passionate about photography both in his work and personal life, his most profound contribution to the artistic community and the world is the iPhone, which, in less than a decade, has changed both the art of photography and the industry around it.”

Including Steve Jobs in the list is really no wonder after looking at the tributes been given to him after his death. The mobile phone photography is in existence since more than a decade even before the first iPhone, however the latter changed it well and other services like social networks pushed the mobile photography beyond the boundaries which stacked up against and even crossed the consumer camera market. Now the photography in mobile phones is one of the major factor which has its own following looking for great innovations and improvements in it.

IPHF committee believes that the selected individuals “have made a notable contribution to the art or science of photography, having a significant impact on the photography industry and/or history of photography.”

The 50th anniversary celebration event will take place on October 28th to induct the new names.
