iPhone 8 will reportedly replace Touch ID with 3D facial recognition

Tenth anniversary of iPhone is expected to bring a lot in its upcoming iteration supposedly iPhone 8. The high-end model of iPhone 8 is believed to have an edge-to-edge OLED display first ever on an iPhone. A recent report suggests that the said model of Apple smartphone will be featuring a 3D face recognition.

According to report, Apple could remove the already existing Touch ID fingerprint scanner in iPhone 8. Instead, the Cupertino based fruit company will incorporate new three dimensional facial recognition with front-facing laser scanner for security features in the smartphone.

This new scanner is supposedly to act as a security layer as to feature an edge-to-edge display, iPhone 8 may also give up on the long standing home button. This could also lead the most famous smartphone maker to move the fingerprint scanner on the rear side. But according to JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall, Apple is supposed to ditch the Touch ID at all and introduce a whole new security feature.

iPhone 8 (or iPhone 7s, 7s Plus or iPhone X), yet unknown and confusing names so far in speculations, with the added scanner may cost $10 to $15 additionally. Adding more features like a large OLED display, glass casing as well as additional production costs may make a total of $100 approximately more expensive than previous iPhone. These new features and additional costs could justify the reports of the next iPhone to have base price of $1000.
