Android TV to get a new Look with Android O

Android TV with Android O

Google has announced about the changes coming to Android TV including its new user interface along with the upcoming operating system version Android O.

With the Android O software, Google is bringing rich and improved app experience and entertainment to Android TV. Users will be able to easily access content from their favourite apps. The update will bring the new home screen focused on content. It will bring Google Assistant to the Android TV as well.

New Home Screen on Android TV

The home screen now has a completely new look and organizes video content into channels and programs which is most familiar to the TV viewers. Apps, in Android TV, now can publish multiple channels in rows with programs on the screen. Apps can add relevant programs to the channels and update these programs and channels as users access content or when new content is available.

Programs can include a video preview, which is automatically played when a user focuses on a program. The top of the home screen will include a quick launch bar for users’ favorite apps. There will be a special “Watch Next” channel which will contain programs based on the viewing habits of the user.

For developers, creating and maintaining channels and programs are now part of the TvProvider APIs. These APIs are distributed as an Android Support Library module with Android O.

Google Assistant on Android TV

Google is also bringing Google Assistant to Android TV. It will allow users to search for content with their voice, or control playback, find out information. It will even dim the lights in your room if it connected with your smart home devices.

Google Assistant will be coming to Android TV later this year with Android O. It will be available on Nexus Player. Google Assistant will also be available on Android Marshmallow and Android Nougat Android TV units in US.
