DJI Spark – A Mini Drone Camera for Everyone, Costs $499

The professional drone makers, DJI has introduced its first drone for consumers – DJI Spark. This mini drone camera is entry-level product aimed at general users and enthusiasts.

DJI Spark features a 12 megapixel camera with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor that supports full HD video caputre at 1920×1080 resolution. The camera features a 2-axis gimbal also.

This mini drone weighs only 300 grams and can fly up to 50 km/h (31 mph). It offers a 16 min flight time with 720p real-time video transmission from up to 2km (1.2 miles) away. The Spark drone includes multiple sensors for accident avoidance, gesture control, micro-USB charging and DJI’s proprietary Intelligent Flight modes. Yes, gesture control allows you to control the drone with your hand gestures alone too.

DJI Spark – QuickShot Intelligent Flight Mode

DJI has added a new Intelligent Flight mode – QuickShot, that records one minute shot and automatically trims it down to 10 seconds footage that you can share on social media. The QuickShot mode further offers four different flight patterns.

  1. Rocket: It sends the Spark mini drone straight up into the air with the camera pointed down.
  2. Dronie: The Spark drone flies up and away from the subject.
  3. Circle: The drone automatically rotates around the subject.
  4. Helix: This pattern makes the drone fly upwards while spiraling away from the subject.

Pricing and Availability

The DJI Spark mini drone will be available in five colors including Alpine White, Sky Blue, Meadow Green, Lava Red, and Sunrise Yellow. DJI Spark starter package costs $499 USD in US that includes an aircraft, a battery, a USB charger and three pairs of propellers.

DJI offers additional package called – Spark Fly More Combo, that includes an aircraft, two batteries, four pairs of propellers, a remote controller, propeller guards, a charging hub, a shoulder bag and all necessary cables, with a US retail price of $699 USD.

That means, for additional $200, you get an additional battery, another pair of propellers, a remote controller, propeller guards, a charging hub, a shoulder bag and all necessary cables.
