Nokia 6, 5, and Nokia 3 confirmed to receive Android O Software Update

Nokia 6

HMD Global, the licensee to make Nokia smartphones for next decade, confirmed that the upcoming Nokia devices will receive Android O software update. In addition, monthly security updates will also make their way to not-yet-released Nokia 6, 5 and the Nokia 3 smartphones.

It’s worth mentioning here that Android O is currently in public beta phase and not yet shipped widely to consumer devices. Only people willing to get early access to Android O with eligible devices can use public beta of the software.

On the other hand, the said Nokia devices are yet to be released globally by the end of this month. HMD is most likely to secure its willing customers to wait for the devices as they come available in their markets. Announcing Android O support for those unreleased devices is indeed better for both – HMD and Nokia.

Keep in mind, that Android O is not set to roll out until September – the usual time frame of Android release. This could hint that newer yet-unannounced Nokia devices may get the software update sooner or even may carry it out-of-the-box. Do not expect Nokia 6, 5 or Nokia 3 smartphones to receive Android O update before the new Nokia devices – rumored Nokia 7, 8, 9.
