Today’s announcement could have been the biggest from Samsung after the deadly loss from Galaxy Note 7 last year. The company has now officially announced the Galaxy Note 8.

After going through a plenty of leaks and rumors, the newest addition to Samsung’s smartphone family is now official. More specifically it’s from the phablet family of Note. As expected, the Galaxy Note 8 brings the Infinity Display which was introduced with the Galaxy S8 to the bigger design. The S Pen is now a bit more advanced.

Essential Features

The essential features of the Galaxy Note 8 include a 6.3-inch display, with the Quad HD+ resolution of 2960×1440 (521 ppi). There’s a 64-bit processor in the phone which will vary depending on the market, as usual. There’s an octa-core (2.3GHz Quad + 1.7GHz Quad) chipset, or another octa-core (2.3GHz Quad + 1.9GHz Quad). In the United States, it’ll be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor while the Galaxy Note 8 will be shipped in other regions with the proprietary Exynos chipset.

The Galaxy Note 8 boasts a 6GB of RAM, and will be available in three variants with either 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB built-in storage options. There is a microSD card slot for expandable storage as well.

Surprisingly, this massive device is still backed by only a 3300mAh, it supports wireless charging, and supports Fast Charging with Quick Charge 2.0. The Galaxy Note8 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, it has a fingerprint reader, and it also supports iris scanning and facial recognition.

Dual 12-Megapixel Rear Cameras

Finally Samsung adopts the dual-camera strategy on its Galaxy Note8. There is a pair of 12-megapixel cameras on the back. One has a 12MP Dual Pixel AF sensor with a wide-angle f/1.7 aperture lens and optical image stabilization. The other camera module has a standard 12MP sensor, a telephoto f/2.4 aperture lens, also with optical image stabilization.

This dual-camera module in Galaxy Note8 supports 2x optical zoom (thanks to the telephoto lens) and up to 10x digital zoom. On the front there is an 8MP front-facing camera with autofocus capability and has a larger f/1.7 lens aperture.

Other Features

The Galaxy Note 8 is also water and dust resistant with IP68-rating. In fact the S Pen is also water resistant, which means you can write on the display even when it’s wet.

User Experience

Galaxy Note8 includes the ability to send animated texts or drawings to devices that support animated GIFs. For more extent, you can animate something with the S Pen and quickly send it off to a friend.

Always On Display functionality on the Galaxy Note 8 is improved. Users can write on the display with the S Pen and take up to 100 pages of notes. They also will be able to pin a note to the Always On Display.

The S Pen now can translate when you hover it over some text on Note 8. The translator currently support 71 languages right out of the box. Additionally it can convert units and currencies.

DeX & Bixby

Galaxy Note 8 also supports Samsung DeX, that allows you to have a desktop-like experience. It’s medium accessory like Microsoft Continuum that connects your Note 8 to a larger screen. On the other hand, Galaxy Note 8 comes with a Bixby button on the side of the device for good measure that allows you to use Samsung Bixby digital assistant.

Prices and Availability

Galaxy Note 8 will go on sale in September 15 and that it will be available in Orchid Gray, Maple Gold, Deepsea Blue, and Midnight Black.
