Both front & rear cameras of Nokia 8 feature Zeiss Optics

HMD Global has finally announced its first flagship Android smartphone – Nokia 8 during the launch event in London. The powerful Snapdragon 835 is running the Nokia 8 which also brings in the camera optics provider Carl Zeiss.

Carl Zeiss relation with Nokia is not new, it was there before the most famous mobile phone brand broke apart. It remains when the brand stands back with HMD Global as a licensee. But this time, it seems the relationship gets even stronger between the two popular brands in their own fields.

3x 13MP autofocus Cameras with Zeiss Optics

In Nokia 8, both the front and rear camera now feature Zeiss optics. Rear dual-camera combines two 13-megapixel sensors, an RGB and a monochrome one. One shoots color photos and features optical image stabilization (OIS), while the other only captures monochrome shots. That’s exactly like the approach Huawei has used in its P9 and P10 smartphones.

The two primary cameras on the back feature phase detect autofocus (PDAF) sensors with 1.12µm pixel size. Both of them feature Zeiss lenses with f/2.0 aperture and 76.9° field of view (FOV). It also features dual-tone flash and infrared range finder.

The front camera also has 13-megapixels with phase detect autofocus (PDAF). The sensor has 1.12µm pixel size and the front camera also equips with a Zeiss lens f/2.0 aperture. It’s a little wider with 78.4° FOV.

#Bothie – Capture, Share, Broadcast The Two Sided Story

It’s called Dual-Sight, a feature that lets users to capture and share the content from both, the front and the rear camera at the same time. But most interesting part is that you can broadcast it live to your social networks such as Facebook Live or YouTube Live.

HMD didn’t take the credit of one such feature. It stated that the company has worked closely with Qualcomm, Google, and Facebook to get everything right. Qualcomm on the other hand states that Nokia 8 is built with specially with imaging in mind – thanks to the upgraded Qualcomm Spectra 180, the integrated image signal processor (ISP) in Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip.

“The Qualcomm Spectra ISP’s 14-bit processing means users can take advantage of smooth optical zoom, swift dual-pixel autofocus, zero shutter lag, and lightning-fast capture speeds, almost as fast as their eyes can see. Combined with Electronic Image Stabilization 3.0, the Nokia 8 is designed to deliver beautiful, high-quality images and shake-free video, even when zoomed all the way in.”
