Nokia 8 officially announced with Dual Zeiss Camera – Price, Release Date, Features

Nokia 8 Official

Nokia – once the leader in mobile phone market – is back on track with a flagship smartphone quite long after 3 years.

HMD Global is now the new home of Nokia phones, we know that. The company has already launched a few mid-range smartphones, Nokia 3, 5 and 6. But after long running rumors and speculations, Nokia 8 is the first flagship we are seeing since the Finnish brand returned.

Nokia 8 is a full metal shell which is 7.9mm thick from the mid and just under 5mm at the edges. It’s not waterproof but splashproof with IP54 rating. That means it will be fine to take it out during a slight rain shower but not recommended to take it to swim.

Nokia 8 will be available in four colors – two, the blue and copper with a shiny and glossy finish. Other two will be available in matte blue and matte silver with some less shiny effect. Exact release date was not announced but Nokia 8 will be released in September. Certainly, the flagship Nokia 8 will be first available in UK and later in other regions. UK or Australia are not yet in words.

Nokia 8 – Features

The new Nokia 8 sports a 5.3-inch screen with IPS display with Quad-HD resolution with the massive pixel density 554ppi.

The 5.3 inch display is rather smaller than most high-end smartphones but Nokia 8 will attract many from both by standing between the smaller and larger screens.

That moderate screen size with QHD resolution gives the higher pixel density as 554ppi for those who always are hungry for amazing sharpness. The display brightness is rated to gain 700 nits at maximum which, is, a lot.

Sacrificing the dual-edge display, HMD explains they opted for higher resolution front-facing camera and front-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Nokia 8 is powered by the Qualcomm chipset Snapdragon 835 and sports dual-camera configuration with Carl Zeiss optics.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 comes along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage in three color models. Glossy Blue is leader among them with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Expandable memory is also supported with microSD card for up to 256GB.

Nokia 8 design has a graphite-shielded cooling pipe that “dissipates the heat” along the full length and width of the phone.

The dual-camera is more like Huawei’s configuration than of Apple. Two 13-megapixel cameras are combined together with an RGB sensor and a monochrome sensor. An image is shot with both the sensors and then combined for better low-light photography.

Monochrome sensor alone is also available to shoot real black & white images rather than the traditional photos converted later by desaturation.

Not only #Selfie but #Bothie

On the front there’s also a 13-megapixel camera that should take amazing selfies but Nokia has added one more thing on the board – called #Bothie. It’s that the phone can use both the front and the rear camera at once and split the screen in half to shoot both sides of the scene. Not only share, it broadcasts live from both cameras at once.

The phone will have backup of 3090mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.

There we have some little low battery capacity to run the power house. Still it should be better than Galaxy S8 other other devices with larger displays but the similar battery size. QC3 fast charging is a go with USB Type-C port on Nokia 8. Wireless charging is not available.
