Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 unveiled with Snapdragon 835, 6″ display

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

After recent leaks and reports, Xiaomi has officially unveiled the sequel of its first concept phone. In pursuit of making the smartphones completely off-bezels, Chinese smartphone maker took the lead to introduce Mi Mix last year.

Now after Samsung and LG with their own slim-bezel designs, Apple and Huawei is all set to announce their bezel-free counterparts. Xiaomi, however, has once again jumped to the next version of its concept phone – Mi Mix 2.

Major Features

The successor Mi Mix 2 comes with a smaller screen size as 5.99″ than of the original Mi Mix with 6.44-inch. Additionally, instead of the 17:9 aspect ratio, the Mix 2 features more taller resolution as 18:9. However the phone still remains at FullHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The change comes with further reduced bottom bezel by 12% and curved glass on the front.

The base model “Black Ceramic Edition” of Mi Mix 2 sports 6GB of RAM and comes in variants of 64GB, 128GB or 256GB internal storage. This model has a back ceramic panel with aluminium frame. The company also announced a special edition of the phone in “All Ceramic Edition” which is a full ceramic unibody, boasts 8GB of RAM with only a variant of 128GB internal storage.

Powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset, currently-top from Qualcomm, the Mix 2 will be clocked at up to 2.45GHz, along side the Adreno 540 graphics processor. Two models vary a little in size and weight where the base model weighs 185 grams and packs into 151.8 x 75.5 mm profile, while the other model is 2 grams heavier with 187 grams but has a little smaller (around 1 mm both sides) outfit – 150.5 x 74.6 mm.

Software wise, the Mi Mix 2 will run Android 7 Nougat with MIUI 9.

Camera

On the back, Mi Mix 2 features a 12-megapixel primary camera module which has a Sony IMX386 image sensor with pixel size of 1.25µm inside, while there’s a 5-element lens with f/2.0 aperture and 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilization). The main camera features some kind of dark light enhancement technology as well to improve low-light shots. There’s a 5-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

Battery:

Xiaomi has also reduced the battery to 3400mAh battery for the Mix 2, when compared to the original. But it’s a huge drop of 1000mAh. While the diagonal screen size of the successor is also reduced by a half-inch, hopefully the company reduced the battery size accordingly. Mix 2 supports Quick Charge 3.0 with 9V/2A charger and features USB Type-C connectivity and double sided charging interface.
