Nokia 8 Sirocco – Curved Glass but no Headphone Jack, Price, Specs

After an year HMD Global came back to the world’s biggest phone show – Mobile World Congress. The Finnish company has once again announced not one or two but five new handsets. Taking from the refreshed version of Nokia 8110 as a feature phone through all the way to a flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco.

Keeping the digit “8” in the name suggest that it’s kind of another version of the original Nokia 8, rather it’s completely different from the original. Nokia 8 Sirocco is fully premium device with dual-curved 3D Gorilla Glass 5 on back and front. Between the glasses, there’s a stainless steel body keeping the phone fixed altogether. With that build, HMD gives you an IP67 rating of water and dust resistance which is the first from the company.

Even though the phone has narrow bezels, it maintains the 16:9 aspect ratio of the display as it has bit wider build – more like Huawei Mate 10. Nokia 8 Sirocco has a 5.5-inch display (Nokia 8 has 5.3″) but the resolution of the devices remains the same as Quad HD. Hence the Sirocco will give you a bit less sharp display.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is running inside with Octa-core Kryo processor, four clocked at 2.36GHz and other four clocked at 1.9GHz. Along side that, Nokia 8 Sirocco has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, that is USF 2.1.

With USB Type-C port, the phone comes with 3260 mAh battery and Qi Wireless Charging, not to mention fast charging. Fingerprint sensor is on the back below the dual-camera but there is no headphone jack.

Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with dual-camera with a pair of 12MP and 13MP camera. The former is a standard camera with pixel size of 1.4um and 78.2° Zeiss lens with f/1.7 aperture, while the latter carries a Telephoto lens providing 2x optical zoom with 47.3° field of view. There is a 5 megapixel camera with display flash.

The phone comes with Pro Camera mode that allows to manually control the camera settings – white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed and exposure.

As HMD Global announced that all the Nokia devices, from Nokia 3 upward, will now be part of Android One program. So is the Nokia 8 Sirocco, following the Nokia 7 Plus. The phone will come with Android Oreo out-of-the-box. Software features include “Picture-in-Picture for multitasking, Android Instant Apps to discover and run apps with minimal friction, 60 fantastic new emojis and battery-maximising features like limiting background app use.”

Pricing and Availability

Nokia 8 Sirocco will be available from early April and will be available in single color that is black. It will retail for an average retail price of €749 excluding taxes and subsidies. That makes a huge price tag but consider it limited to Europe just like before. Other regional prices will be much lower as we have noticed from previous pricing, just use the same figure with US dollars. That’s around $750, that’s the price we expect it to sell in other regions including Pakistan – approximately PKR 75,000/- Frankly that’s expect even lower price than that.
