Huawei Mate 10 Review – The Big and Powerful

Huawei Mate 10 Review Feature

Introduction and Features

The year is running just before the last lap and probably all the tech giants have shown their cards. Whether it’s Samsung, Apple or LG, everyone of them had launched their flagship phones this year – namely iPhone 8 and X, Galaxy Note 8 and V30 respectively. Left one was Huawei, and they also brought their Mate 10 series of smartphones last month.

Huawei Pakistan launched the duo of the flagship Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro in Pakistan earlier this month. Huawei also launched the cheaper model among them, dubbed Mate 10 lite for the developing markets. So the customers here in Pakistan also saw the release of this cheaper model.

Frankly, the Mate 10 lite has already attracted the masses specially for its premium build and features which costs only PKR 30,000/- On the other hand the Mate 10 Pro is the expensive deal among them costing PKR 88,000/- while the standard Mate 10 model is priced at PKR 70,000/-

We had our hands-on with the all of the three Mates during the launch event, the standard Mate 10 is what you are reading about here. We’ll see if it’s really worth for what it costs.

Introduction

Huawei has kicked out the metal finish for Mate 10 and instead used the all glass finish that makes the phone attractive in the wild. Running along the top tier manufacturers, Huawei also has joined in the narrow-bezel form factor for the Mate 10 smartphone.

Not to mention the Quad HD resolution which is what Huawei is adapting slowly but still refraining from doing so. Interesting fact is that the expensive Mate 10 Pro has only full HD+ resolution while this standard Mate 10 has a QHD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.

Huawei calls the new Mate 10, an intelligent machine. That’s due to the fact it has put in its new Kirin 970 processor – launched in September. The processor equips with eight ARM cores – 4x Cortex-A73 clocked at 2.4GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. Huawei has really made this processor at its excellence till date to give real competition to other manufacturers. The processor is combination of TSMC’s 10nm FinFet+ manufacturing process, a high-end GPU Mali-G72 MP12 and a separate NPU (Neural-Network Processing Unit) to accelerate on-device machine learning. That makes the device artificially more intelligent and faster.

Huawei has claimed that its NPU is rated at 1.92TFLOPs of FP16 compute performance which 3 times faster than Kirin 960’s GPU. The following demonstration shown at the unveiling of the processor tells that the new Kirin chipset is 20 time faster in recognizing images with 2005 images recognized in a minute.

Other features include the 4000mAh battery which is just same as Mate 9. It charges up to 58% in 30 minutes. Dual camera configuration is also same at resolution but Mate 10 brings lens aperture of f/1.6 – the brightest in smartphones first appeared in LG V30.
