Nokia 2.1, 3.1, and 5.1 Now Official – Specs, Price, Release Date and Everything you want to know

HMD Global has launched upgraded models of Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 for 2018. The new devices are named version notation just like previously the company launched Nokia 6.1 earlier this year. Now they are Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 respectively.

HMD has stated that Nokia 3 has been the most sold smartphone among its lineup last year and the new Nokia 3.1 is expected to follow the landmark. Nokia 2.1 on the other hand packs a huge 4000mAh battery, while the top of the trio Nokia 5.1 has extended display resolution.

Running Android Oreo out of the box, Nokia 3.1 and 5.1 join the Android One family, while the Nokia 2.1 will run Android Oreo (Go Edition).

Nokia 5.1

The top-tier of the trio – Nokia 5.1 has a good shake from within but the most important and prominent upgrade is its screen. It now carries 18:9 aspect ratio display of 5.5-inch with full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels.

In addition, covered within an aluminium body, the Nokia 5.1 is powered with MediaTek’s Helio P18 chipset (instead of Qualcomm’s one as last year’s). It comes in two options to buy from – 2GB or 3GB of RAM, and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. Expandable memory option is present via hybrid SIM slot.

Running Android 8 Oreo, Nokia 5.1 features a 16MP autofocus camera on the back while there is 8MP selfie camera on the front. Other features include microUSB connectivity, NFC, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and 2970 mAh battery.

Nokia 3.1

When launched originally, the Nokia 3 was the cheapest model of the first three Nokia branded Android smartphones. Nokia 2 and Nokia 1 released later and took the place of being even cheaper models of the lineup. So initially being the entrant smartphone, Nokia 3 of last year carried MediaTek’s older and low-end quad-core processor. Nokia 3.1 now steps up with an octa-core processor of the same family – MediaTek MT6750.

Nokia 3.1 upgrades to 5.2-inch display also with 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen resolution extends with a plus in HD (1440 x 720). This model will also come in two memory options – 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage or 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

This middle-tier of the three new smartphones has 13MP main camera on the back with f/2.0 lens aperture and an 8MP camera on the front. The phone will run Android 8 Oreo out of the box and is backed up by 2990 mAh battery.

Nokia 2.1

Running Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition), the phone should give an optimized experience on low-end hardware like this entry-level Nokia 2.1. It, however, gets a CPU upgrade from the original Nokia 2 of last year.

Nokia 2.1 features a 5.5-inch screen with 720p display and it’s powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. On the back the phone has a primary 8MP autofocus camera while on the front there is a 5MP selfie camera. Other features include 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2.

This cheap model among the trio has some prominent features. It has a large 4,000 mAh battery and it can live up to 2 days, according to HMD. The phone also has dual front-facing stereo speakers.

Pricing and Availability

Nokia 5.1 will be available in three colors – black, tempered blue and copper. The 2GB model will cost you with an average retail price of EUR 189 (or USD ~218). The 3GB model will have an average retail price of EUR 219 (or USD ~245).

Nokia 3.1 will be available in three color combinations – blue with copper, black with chrome and white with iron accent. The 2GB model will cost you around EUR 139 (or USD ~160) and the 3GB model will be available for around EUR 169 (or USD ~196).

The most cheaper Nokia 2.1 will be priced around USD 115 (or EUR ~99). This phone will also be available in three color combinations – blue with copper, blue with silver and gray with silver accent.

Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 2.1 will go on sale from July 2018, while the Nokia 3.1 will be available earlier in June 2018. HMD has not disclosed about the regional releases but that’s just an global release. We’ll see what the company has planned to start with.

Availability and Prices in Pakistan

If you are in Pakistan, then do consider that previously launched Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus are still yet to be available in the country. The new Nokia 6 did make it to the market however. There is a chance that new Nokia 5.1, 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 will also make it. Expect them to launch for PKR ~19,500/-, ~17,000/-, and ~13,500/- respectively.
