Honor View 20, in-display camera, 48MP camera and Link Turbo – Everything you want to know

Honor V20

Honor View 20 all set to take over with innovations – first ever in-display camera, 48MP rear camera, and Link Turbo to boost download speed.

The company has revealed the technologies in Hong Kong today as reported recently by Android Authority. The Honor View 20 will be featuring the world’s first in-display (aka punch-hole) camera at the corner. The attempt is sure to ditch the much disliked notch design, however the same design is in rumors to feature in Samsung’s Galaxy S10.

In addition, the Honor View 20 will also feature the 48-megapixel main camera – supposedly the triple camera system in array like we have seen in Huawei P20 Pro. Another feature, dubbed as Link Turbo, is the feature that will help boost download by combining both the Wi-Fi and 3G/LTE data.

World’s First In-Display Camera?

The in-display camera is made possible with a punch-hole at the upper-left corner of the display. It’s a 4.5mm diameter circular hole that will feature a front-facing camera.

According to report, “the hole is not a traditional hole”. Instead, Honor uses a special design to maintain the structure of the display while the front camera will be functioning fine. Probably it’s a real in-display camera that “would see through the screen.”

But hold-on, the world’s first in-display camera? Well the report suggests that the Honor View 20 will be announced on January 22nd in Paris. But the Huawei Nova 4 is already up to go on sale in China probably on December 17th. Just look at the teaser below.

World’s First 48MP camera

Honor View is also reported to be featuring the 48-megapixel camera on a smartphone. Huawei previously released 40MP camera coupled with two other cameras in Huawei P20 Pro but Nokia launched the 41MP camera in its Lumia 1020 (in 2013) after Nokia 808 PureView (in 2012). Huawei can take the crown from Nokia by launching the Honor View 20, only if Xiaomi does not pull the curtains off its 48MP camera smartphone which is also in news.

However this big sensor on Honor View 20 is going to be the Sony IMX586. It’s a 1/2-type (half-inch) sensor which still won’t beath the Nokia’s larger sensor on Lumia 1020, let alone the monster 1/1.2-type sensor on 808 PureView. The camera will be using the same pixel-binning technology Nokia has used. It helps the system to gather more light in low-light conditions by combining the light-data from four adjacent pixels and generate 12MP image with amazingly less-noise.

What is Link Turbo

Simply it’s a tech that will combine both the Wi-Fi and Data connections to bump up the download speeds. Samsung has offered it with the term “Download Booster” and in fact we have seen it once from Infinix as the term “Turbo Download”.

However, the Link Turbo is now supposed to use the AI to analyse the network conditions. It will then deliver optimal results accordingly.

Honor View 20 Launch Date

While the report above hinted about January 22nd but it also mentioned to be the “global” launch. Another update about Honor V20 reveals that the phone will be launched on December 26h. Here is the invite showing the launch date.

So if you are among those who didn’t like the notch displays, here is you chance to adapt another kind, unless there comes an invisible front camera.

What about Samsung’s In-Display Camera?

Well it’s not the first to hear about in-display camera, to kill the notch on the display. Samsung is also in the news to bring its next Galaxy S flagship with a cornered-hole display. However it’s worth mentioning here that the Korean smartphone maker didn’t jump on the bandwagon notches, the fact that I personally liked.

Let’s wait a bit more to see who brings the hole-tech to shelves.
