Samsung Galaxy A8s listed with Infinit-O display, Snapdragon 710 and Triple Rear Camera

Samsung has announced its first smartphone with an in-display cutout for the front-facing camera. The smartphone availability is not yet disclosed, nor its price. However a reservation portal has already been up for consumers to get registered.

So, it literally isn’t the first smartphone to offer the in-display camera as we Honor View 20 and/or the Huawei Nova 4 have already been shown up and launching this month. We can indeed suggest it to be the Samsung’s first smartphone to feature this kind of display, which is also reported to feature on the company’s next flagship Galaxy S10.

Samsung brings a 6.7mm “punch-hole” cutout  at the upper-left corner of the display that houses the 24-megapixel front camera. The Galaxy A8s will feature an IPS LCD display, so save the AMOLED based Infinity-O display for the flagship to come next year.

Major Features

The display properties include the Full HD+ resolution of 1080p with the aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Samsung wants to be very truthful here by mentioning the display size as 6.2-inch diagonal, due to the rounded corners. However the technical specs listed the phone with a 6.4-inch display.

Powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710, the Galaxy A8s features 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. An 8GB model will also be available and expandable storage via microSD card will be supported too.

The phone is backed up by a 3400 mAh battery but the phone will still be running Android 8.1 Oreo OS out-of-the-box. It’s not yet known if the Android 9 Pie is coming for the phone or not. The phone features a metal and glass build-up and will be available in three colours including – Aurora Black, Alien Silver, and Elf Blue.

Triple Rear Camera

The Galaxy A8s features trio of the camera on its back. A 24MP primary RGB unit is coupled with a 10MP telephoto (2x optical zoom) and 5MP depth camera. Another 24MP front-facing camera is housed into the “punch-hole” cutout at the top-left corner of the display. Perhapse, that’s the reason Samsung calls it the Infinity-O display.

Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy A8s has been listed on its Chinese portal and pre-orders kick in on December 12th. The availability of the phone has not been disclosed, nor the pricing. However it’s reported to go on sale around $450.
