Unlike previous years with Huawei flagship leaks and rumors, Huawei P40 is, yet, at a slow pace to reveal itself. Things are finally getting close to what an official Huawei P40 would carry around. However, about its looks, it’s going to gather some detail from the woods.
Following some unofficial renders previously, a recent leak provides detail about the colors and the design of the upcoming Huawei flagship. The new images published, as supplied by “industry source”, show the Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro in all its glory.
Huawei will reportedly reveal its flagship P40 smartphones in Paris, someday in March this year.
Huawei P40 and P40 Pro Design
The Huawei P40 is supposed to keep three cameras on the back from its predecessor — Huawei P30. However, it will reportedly feature two selfie cameras on the front. So will do the Huawei P40 Pro, in addition to quad-camera setup on the back. Both the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro will be carrying oblong punch-hole with dual front cameras.
Both the phones feature respective triple and quad-camera setups with Leica optics. The recent leak suggests that both the phones will be available in five color options, all with gradient finish — black, blush gold, silver frost, deep-sea blue, and ice white.
Huawei P40 and P40 Pro Display
Huawei P40 is rumored to have a display of the size between 6.1-inches to 6.2-inches. The P40 Pro will reportedly feature between 6.5-inch to 6.7-inch display.
Huawei P40 and P40 Pro Features
Early information suggested that the upcoming flagship sibling of Huawei P40 series would feature the company’s high-end Kirin 990. Both the P40 and P40 Pro are supposed to come with 5G connectivity, as the chipset has a built-in 5G modem. Both the phones will run EMUI 10 out of the box base on open-source Android 10, of course without Google apps and services.
The P40 may come with 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage onboard.
Huawei P40 and P40 Pro Cameras
The P40 will reportedly feature a triple camera setup with a primary camera paired with an ultra-wide-angle camera and a 3D ToF sensor. The exact resolution of the standard P40’s cameras is yet unknown. However, the early renders of the Huawei P40 suggests that the phone may carry a camera with 80mm telephoto lens (roughly 3x optical zoom), rather than with a ToF sensor, which is more believable.
The Huawei P40 Pro, on the other hand, is reported to have a 52MP main camera with Sony’s Quad-Bayer sensor. That’s 1/1.33″ type sensor, currently the largest mobile image sensor — equals with Samsung’s 108MP mobile sensor. It’s still smaller than what we saw from Nokia 808 PureView eight years ago.
The main 52MP camera in Huawei P40 Pro is reported to have paired with three more cameras – a camera with a 125mm periscope lens with ~5x optical zoom and another ultra-wide-angle camera.
Reports suggest that the fourth unit could be a 3D ToF sensor or a macro camera, but we believe it to be 3D ToF. Huawei previously used the ultra-wide-angle unit for Ultra Macro mode which is still possible, so why spare a dedicated space for that?
Huawei P40 Pro Premium
Most recently we have another player among the high-end P40 and P40 Pro — the P40 Pro Premium. This premium variant, if believed to be launched, will reportedly feature not three or four but five cameras.
This is what very initial reports started to emerge suggesting the Penta-camera setup in Huawei P40 Pro. Considering it from a reliable source like @evleaks, this can be taken as an authentic variant. However, if you look closely, this variant has to offer a 10x optical zoom with a 240mm focal length.
Currently, the periscope lens design has offered up to 5x optical zoom. This 10x optical zoom lens is reportedly having a periscope lens design with a dual-prism mirror.
So right now you can tell that Huawei may offer three mainstream Huawei P40-series smartphones — Huawei P40, P40 Pro, and a P40 Pro Premium. We are not counting the special edition of Huawei P40 Pro Porsche Design.
The company is reported to launch its Huawei P40 flagship devices in March 2020 in Paris. Just hold tight and see what it will be bringing. Will it impress the market with no Google apps and services? we’ll see that after the official unveiling.
