Huawei Pay launched in Pakistan – In partnership with National Bank and UnionPay

Huawei has launched its mobile wallet service, formally dubbed as Huawei Pay, in Pakistan. This will be the fourth market in the world where the company’s mobile payment service will work. Huawei Pay, currently, is available in China, Russia, and Hong Kong.

For the service’s availability in Pakistan, Huawei has cooperated with UnionPay International and the National Bank of Pakistan. The Chinese financial services provider, UnionPay has partnered with Huawei for global expansion of Huawei Pay.

The service will initially be available to Huawei/Honor smartphone users. They just need to have an NBP UnionPay Virtual Card. Users can now visit Huawei AppGallery to download and install the Huawei Wallet app to start using the secure and quick payment experiences brought by Huawei Pay.

Huawei and UnionPay initially launched Huawei Pay service for the Chinese market on August 31, 2016. Later, on January 26, 2018, Huawei signed a global cooperation agreement with UnionPay to promote Huawei Pay’s globalization and accelerate overseas implementation. Today, Huawei Pay has officially been launched in Pakistan “marking an important milestone and laying a solid foundation for a broader global layout in the future.” The two companies already launched the service in Russia in December 2018.

How Huawei Pay Works?

Huawei Pay, the mobile payment and digital wallet service is now the next big step towards digital innovation. It is an easy and secure way to make payments with your Huawei or Honor smartphones. You will not need to present your credit or debit card. Just add your NBP cards to Huawei Wallet on your phone, scan the in-store UnionPay QR code and finalize your payment.

UnionPay QR code scanning will probably available on most devices including mid-range ones. High-end smartphones will have a more convenient tap-to-pay function soon when the merchants are ready to accept contactless payments.
