The photography enthusiasts know that there is no bigger partnership between a mobile maker and the camera optics experts as the one between ZEISS and Nokia. It’s probably the first partnership of its kind between two companies with respect to cameras in mobiles. It’s always been one of the most admiring partnerships in the industry that led many other companies to have one. However, ZEISS has chosen a new partner in the mobile industry after over a decade, and that is VIVO.
In a recent announcement, it’s now official that the German optics maker, ZEISS, has partnered with Vivo. The Chinese smartphone brand has disclosed that the upcoming Vivo X60 series will feature the ZEISS lenses on its cameras.
There is yet no clarification if the partnership between the two companies will be exclusive. Because if it is, it will be major set back for HMD Global to lose a long-running partner like Zeiss for its smartphone camera lenses. However, in a response, HMD has neither confirmed nor denied if its partnership with ZEISS will be affected or not.
“We welcome our friends at Zeiss expanding their reach in the smartphone market, and we look forward to seeing them develop quality imaging experiences,” – HMD told Android Authority in an emailed response.
It’s worth noting that ZEISS has been associated with the Nokia brand since when there was no iPhone and no Android. In fact, when the Nokia brand was shifted to multiple companies including Microsoft and now HMD Global, the partnership with the optics brand moved along.
Now the shift has been made by ZEISS to choose a new partner, the VIVO X60 series will be a pure mix of other partnerships. The upcoming smartphone will be featuring Samsung’s latest mid-range chipset Exynos 1080 as well as improved camera performance with upgraded camera sensors compared to Vivo X50 Pro and X50 Pro.
We’ll update this story as soon as we hear about any confirmation of the breakup between ZEISS and Nokia. So keep an eye over here and follow us on our social media handles.
