Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will not receive One UI 9 Watch, the latest version of the software on its watches. Everything from the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro upward is due to get it by the end of 2026.
The 2021 Watch 4 range has reached the end of its upgrade promise. It was the first Samsung watch to move from Tizen to Wear OS, and it has already had four major upgrades. That also covers the special editions, such as the Golf Edition and the Thom Browne Edition of the Classic.
What the older watches lose
According to Engadget’s report, the watches will keep running, but patches, new features and security fixes stop, and how long apps keep supporting them is an open question. The newer Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 arrived in August already running One UI 9 Watch, and Samsung promises them five major upgrades where earlier models got four.
The new software redraws the interface, lets you lift your wrist to call up an AI assistant, and adds two health readings, Daily Cardio Load and Heart Health Score. Beta builds have been going to Galaxy Watch 7 and 8 owners, with the sixth beta for the Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic reaching South Korea in late October.
If you own a Watch 5 or newer, the update should arrive before the year ends.
