Subscribers to ChatGPT Pro at $100, $200 and $500, and to Business Premium, now get twice the usage they had. OpenAI made the change effective on 29 October, and with it called off a cut to the $200 tier that was due to begin that day.
That cut had drawn complaints, since the price was staying put while allowances shrank. Codex and ChatGPT Work draw on the same pool under these plans, so heavy coding users feel it most.
Announced on X, no numbers given
Codex lead Thibault Sottiaux broke the news in a post on X, saying OpenAI had listened and Pro 200 users would keep their current Work and Codex usage, on top of the general doubling. OpenAI has published no figures for any tier, so there is no baseline to say what twice the old limit amounts to.
Dots, the background personal agents OpenAI sells, keep their extended allowance for the time being, counted separately from normal usage. The words “for now” leave room for that to change. Plan prices are unchanged, and OpenAI has not said whether lower tiers such as Plus are affected.
The episode follows a pattern common to AI subscriptions, where providers tune allowances after launch and users notice quickly because the plans are priced for heavy daily use. Anyone relying on Codex for long sessions should see the extra headroom straight away, though OpenAI’s wording means the exact gain will only show in practice.
