The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme has opened applications for its Chromebook scheme, which is meant to put 500,000 Chromebooks in the hands of students. Applications run through an online portal run with the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC).
Only students from government or public schools can apply, and only the top performers in their board’s 2026 annual exams are considered. Private school students are not covered by the published criteria.
On the scheme’s portal, eligibility depends on where you live. Students in the four provinces (Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan) qualify through Grade 9 (SSC-I) results. In Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, top Grade 9 and Grade 10 (SSC-II) students can both apply.
Sindh applicants have to wait
Sindh is not open yet. The portal says registration there will start on the same site after the province’s boards announce their Class 9 annual exam results for 2026.
Each board decides which students make the merit list, so being a top performer is judged against your own board, not nationally. The portal pulls up your name, school and marks from the board’s list once you search for your record.
How to apply
The process has four steps, all online:
- Select your education board and enter your CNIC or B-Form number (or your roll or registration number) along with your date of birth.
- Check that the name, school and marks shown are yours.
- Upload your documents.
- Submit the form and save the reference slip.
Keep these ready: a recent colour photo on a plain background, the mark sheet from your SSC-I or SSC-II exam, and attested photocopies of your own CNIC or B-Form and of a parent’s or guardian’s CNIC. Each file has to stay within 300 KB.
If the portal cannot find your record, try your roll or registration number instead. If it still does not appear, the portal tells students to contact their board.
Rules to know before you submit
A student can apply only once, and the form cannot be edited after submission, so check every field first. The portal warns that wrong details can cost you the allocation and may bring further action.
We could not find a nationwide application deadline on the portal, and it does not say which Chromebook models students will receive or who is supplying them. We will update this post if the programme publishes either.
