OpenAI appears to be preparing a way for ChatGPT Health to read data from Google Health on Android phones. Code in the app asks for a set of Health Connect permissions, among them one for reading health records from earlier periods, not just the latest readings.
None of it is switched on yet, and OpenAI has not announced the link. ChatGPT Health is available in the US on both iPhone and Android, but only iPhone users can currently attach Apple Health. Android users have had no equivalent.
The find comes from Android Authority’s teardown of ChatGPT for Android version 1.2026.300. The list includes body composition figures such as weight, body fat and bone mass, plus metabolic rate and reproductive health records covering menstruation and ovulation.
Reading in the background
A background-read permission in the list would let the app pull data while it is closed. Combined with the history permission, that would let ChatGPT look at trends over weeks or months instead of a single day’s step count. Most Android watches and bands sync their readings to Google Health, so owners of those devices are the ones who would benefit.
The teardown also turned up two new screens for explaining and managing Health Connect permissions. What they will say is not clear from the code, but their presence suggests the work is well along.
Code found this way is unfinished work, and some of it never ships. Android Authority also pointed out that ChatGPT recently drew criticism after giving dangerous advice to a woman on seizure medication, which will matter to anyone deciding whether to hand over their health records. OpenAI has not said when, or whether, the Google Health connection will ship.
