Co-op, invasions and PvP are not working in Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 right now. FromSoftware pulled the servers for both games on every platform on 30 October, saying it had found a fault in them.
Both games still start and the single-player campaigns can be finished. What disappears is everything that needs a connection: summoning other players, being invaded, duelling, and the small online touches such as player messages, bloodstains and phantoms that hint at danger ahead.
What FromSoftware has said
Two posts from FromSoftware’s player-support account on X carry the whole explanation. The first, in Japanese, went up just after midnight Pacific time on 30 October. A second post in English followed, calling the servers “temporarily unavailable” and promising word once a restoration time is known.
Neither post says what the fault is, whether it involves an attack, or when play will resume. Other FromSoftware games, including Elden Ring, are not named in the notices.
The 2022 shutdown is the obvious comparison
This outage is wider than the last big one. In January 2022, FromSoftware took the PC servers of several Dark Souls games offline while it investigated security holes. According to PC Games Hardware’s recap, Dark Souls 3 on PC came back on 25 August 2022, and the DirectX 11 version of Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin only on 25 October of that year. That shutdown hit PC only, while this time console servers are down as well.
Nothing published so far ties the current fault to a security problem, so a quick fix and a months-long repair are both possible. Until FromSoftware posts a restoration time, the player-support account on X is where any update will appear first.
