Fortnite players now know how unlikely the Pirate Token is. Epic Games has put numbers on every treasure in the Treasure Hunters mini-season, and the one everyone has been chasing, Pirate Shop Access, drops in about one chest out of every 137,500 opened in a normal match.
The token unlocks a Pirate Shop where Item Shop items can be claimed for free over a 14-day stretch, which is why it became the season’s obsession after Treasure Hunters began on 1 November. Players spent a week opening chests with no idea whether the token was a one-in-thousands chance or far worse, and some tagged the US Federal Trade Commission in posts asking Epic to disclose the odds.
Epic answered on the Fortnite Status account late on 7 November (UTC) with a full table. Treasures come out of ordinary chests, and the rates have not changed since the season launched, apart from during Treasure Hours. Apart from Gizmos, a player cannot receive the same treasure twice.

| Treasure | Chance per chest |
|---|---|
| Weekly Gold Outfit | 1 in 1,562,500 |
| Pirate Shop Access | 1 in 137,500 |
| Weekly Vehicle and Decal | 1 in 7,813 |
| Weekly Pickaxe or Back Bling | 1 in 568 |
| Weekly Jam Track | 1 in 391 |
| Weekly Loading Screen | 1 in 272 |
| Gizmo (any) | 1 in 127 |
Treasure Hours are the exception. During those windows the Pirate Shop Access rate is multiplied by 1.5, the Weekly Gold Outfit by 7.5 and the Weekly Vehicle and Decal by 10. Epic says later Treasure Hours may be more generous, and that the 9pm to 11pm Eastern window on 7 November raised Pirate Shop Access to 2.0 times the base rate and the Gold Outfit to 10 times.
Before the post, players had been guessing. A few had put the Pirate Token at around 1 in 7,000, which turned out to be roughly twenty times too generous. One player complained that people who barely play had found the token on day one while others with more than 3,000 chests opened had nothing, and called for a boycott, while another said squads with over 15,000 chests between them had not found even a car or a jam track.
Reaction to the post was mixed. Some players thanked Epic for the transparency, while others said a week was too long to wait, with a few having opened thousands of chests without seeing the token. Epic has not said whether it will publish odds at the start of future seasons.
