Google Find Hub now alerts you when you leave a tracker behind

Find Hub has a new 'Notify when left behind' setting that warns Android users when a tag is no longer with their phone.

Key points

  • Find Hub adds a 'Notify when left behind' toggle per tag.
  • Alerts are skipped at the Home address saved in Google Maps.
  • The setting seems live only in the US and parts of Europe.

Google’s Find Hub app has started rolling out separation alerts. If you switch on ‘Notify when left behind’ for a tag, your Android phone warns you once you have moved far enough away from it, so a bag or set of keys can be fetched before you are too far off.

Apple has offered the same alert for Find My trackers for years, and Samsung added it to SmartThings for its Galaxy SmartTags and earbuds some time ago. Google’s version is new to Find Hub and works with trackers from different brands.

The switch lives on each tracker’s own page: pick the tag in Find Hub, tap the gear, and the new section is there. 9to5Google tested the feature with Motorola and Chipolo trackers. Alerts are skipped when the tag is at the Home address saved in your Google Maps account, so leaving a tag at home will not set it off.

Early reports suggest the option is live in the US and some parts of Europe, and it is switched on tag by tag. Pakistani users may therefore not see the setting yet, and nothing on Google’s side says when it will reach more countries. The feature had been previewed in October before this rollout started.

For anyone who already owns a compatible tag, the quickest check is to open Find Hub and look for the new section on each tracker’s page. The toggle is set separately for each tag, so enabling it for one tracker does not turn it on for the others.
