Honor’s 700 series may be able to wear a clip-on zoom lens. Digital Chat Station, a Weibo leaker, says the Honor 700 and its Pro sibling can both mount a 200mm teleconverter, an accessory that stretches the reach of the phone’s own telephoto camera. Honor has not announced the phones or the accessory, so this is a leak.
A second tipster, Smart Pikachu, says reservations for the series are about to open. Digital Chat Station has pointed to a China launch event in November, though that date is tentative. Neither tipster says anything about a global release or Pakistan.
What each tipster posted
Digital Chat Station’s latest post is short on numbers. It describes a mid-size display, a big battery, a Snapdragon processor and a periscope telephoto camera, and says the phones have a screen on the back. A big-name celebrity is lined up as the face of the launch.
Smart Pikachu’s post reads like a poster slogan list. It promises long battery life, a “creative” back display and Live Photos shot on either the selfie or the rear cameras, besides the teleconverter and imaging in the 100MP class. It also tags the actress Ju Jingyi, which hints at the ambassador but confirms nothing. “100MP class” is a looser phrase than the 200MP main sensor Digital Chat Station has described.
The 700 Pro prototype
The detailed specs come from an engineering sample that Digital Chat Station described in an earlier post on 24 October, which Gizmochina wrote up the same day. He says the family has three models and an internal codename, Flora.
| Item | Reported for the 700 Pro prototype |
|---|---|
| Front screen | 6.57 inches, 1.5K, thin bezels on every side |
| Rear screen | 1.72 inches, part of the body rather than an add-on |
| Cameras | Triple setup with a 200MP main sensor and a 50MP periscope telephoto |
| Battery | Around 9,000mAh, the largest of the three models |
| Colours in testing | Cool White, Sky Blue, Azure, Pink Mist (translated) |
| Launch | November, tentative |
Only the Pro is said to carry the periscope camera, so the teleconverter would reach the base Honor 700 without a dedicated zoom lens behind it. How the lens attaches, what it costs and whether it needs a case are all unknown.
Against the Honor 600 series
The Honor 600 range reached China in May with three models, and only the 600 and 600 Pro went global. Its rear display was a magnetic mini screen that snapped on; the 700 Pro reportedly builds one in. The leaked 9,000mAh cell is about 400mAh above the 8,600mAh battery in the China-market Honor 600 Super.
Honor has done this before
The idea is not new for the brand. Honor already sells a 2.35x telephoto extender for the Magic8 Pro as part of its Professional Imaging Kit. In early September the same tipster claimed the Magic 9 series would take a 500mm lens, and vivo’s X300 Ultra already supports a 400mm one. A 200mm lens on a numbered 700-series phone would move the accessory down from the flagship line.
Honor has not opened reservations or named a date. A reservation page on its China site would be the first official confirmation of the lineup.
