If you still play on a Quest 2 or Quest Pro, the headset’s software is nearly finished. Meta says the last OS update for both will be v213, arriving by March 2027.
After that, Meta will keep sending security patches and fixes for critical bugs through the end of 2027, but no new features. Developers can still submit apps that support the two headsets until December 2027.
Quest 3 becomes the baseline
In its developer blog post, Meta calls the Quest 3 and Quest 3S the baseline for its VR gamers. Its argument is that they have more performance headroom and built-in mixed reality, and that apps built for them carry over to Meta VR Glasses, a new headset the company plans to release in spring 2027. Those glasses run on the same OS and software kits as the Quest 3 line.
The Quest 2 launched in 2020 and the Quest Pro in 2022. Meta stopped selling both in 2024. The company says “millions of people” still play on them, and that is the reason it is giving a long window of fixes after the last feature update.
The developer deadlines matter more than the date of the last update. Studios can keep submitting Quest 2 and Quest Pro builds for another year after v213 ships, so the games library should not dry up overnight, though Meta is clearly steering new work toward the newer headsets.
For owners, nothing stops working in March. What ends is new system features, and the announcement points developers toward the Quest 3 line, so new games may increasingly target those headsets. Meta’s post covers support only up to the end of 2027.
