You can now talk to Meta’s Muse AI out loud instead of typing. The company has switched on real-time voice conversations in the Muse app, with an animated avatar that reacts as it listens and speaks. It is rolling out in the US first.
Look for the phone button at the top right of the app. Voice works on mobile, the web and Mac, and you can cut Muse off mid-answer, as you would with a person on a call.
Meta says the avatar changes its expression and moves as the mood of the talk changes. You choose how much of it you see: voice only, the avatar beside the chat, or full screen. There are hundreds of voices to pick from, and Meta’s examples include a New Yorker and a pirate.
Meta’s own examples are planning a trip while you walk or cook, and rehearsing a job interview or presentation out loud. It says Muse keeps working on a task in the background while you talk.
Alexandr Wang, who leads AI at Meta, posted a demo call on X and wrote that Muse voice is out for everyone in the US. Meta first previewed the feature at its Connect event in September, and TechCrunch says the avatar goes by the nickname Jolly and can be changed into a person, an animal or another character.
Voice for AI Glasses and a device called Muse Charm is listed as coming soon, and TechCrunch says the Charm, a small wearable with a screen for the avatar, is planned before the end of the year. Meta has not named any countries beyond the US for the app.
