Key points

  • US price is $1,599 for 12GB RAM and 512GB storage
  • 7,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging
  • US pre-orders open 19 November; EMEA launch is 16 November

Motorola has taken the wraps off the Signature 27, a flagship with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, a 7,000mAh battery and a price of $1,599 in the US. That is a steep ask for a Motorola.

The phone has a 6.78-inch tandem AMOLED screen rated for 12,000 nits of peak brightness, a 200MP periscope camera and what Motorola calls the first dedicated event-vision “action sensor” on a phone, which feeds its Action Shot feature. The date it goes on sale depends on where you live.

The launch date was confirmed last week, and today’s announcement fills in the rest. In the US, Android Headlines says in its briefing report that only one configuration is sold, 12GB of RAM with 512GB of storage, at $1,599.99 through Motorola.com, Amazon and Best Buy. Pre-orders open on 19 November and shipping starts on 26 November. The phone is unlocked, no carrier has said it will stock it, and Motorola told the site there is no availability in Canada for now.

Europe gets a wider range. GSMArena lists 12GB and 16GB of RAM with 256GB and 512GB of storage, a recommended price of €1,899 and a launch on 16 November across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with some retailers advertising €1,399.

The battery is about 35% bigger than the one in last year’s Signature, and the phone has grown to match: at 7.99mm thick and 227g it is thicker and heavier than its predecessor. The vapour chamber for cooling is 40% larger. There is no built-in magnet for Qi2 accessories, so MagSafe-style gear needs a magnetic case.

Android Headlines also lists a 66-hour endurance rating for the battery and 2,160Hz PWM dimming on the screen, which matters to people who are sensitive to flicker at low brightness. Motorola does not list a microSD slot or a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the phone is Qi2-ready rather than magnetic out of the box.

On software, Motorola promises seven major Android updates and ships its Qira assistant. 9to5Google reports the phone is also the first outside the Pixel line to get Google’s Gemini Intelligence features, such as Gboard’s Rambler dictation and Create My Widget. Audio is tuned with Bang & Olufsen.
