The 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has appeared in Australia’s classification database with an R 18+ rating, dated 1 October 2026. Activision has not announced anything, so a re-release is speculation for now.
The listing names no platform and says only “Computer Game”. The game is already sold on PC, so the rating alone does not show that consoles are involved.
The find was made by Insider Gaming, which reported the rating and notes the board’s consumer advice mentions drug use, in-game purchases and online chat. It links the listing to Activision’s earlier handling of Black Ops and Black Ops 2, which received Australian ratings before they arrived on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as straightforward ports with some visual improvements.
The 2020 Campaign Remastered covered the story missions only and left out multiplayer. A new release of the original would be a chance to play its online modes on current hardware, although nothing says that is the plan. The game’s Steam page shows the current PC edition.
Ratings usually come shortly before a release or announcement, but they are also filed for titles that never ship in a new form. Treat this as a hint until Activision says something.
