TikTok has not been banned in Pakistan. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Thursday that a notification going around social media, which claims the app has been blocked, is fake and that it never issued it.
PTA described the document as “false and misleading”. Its advice: do not forward it, and check anything about a block against the authority’s website or its verified accounts.
The rumour is believable to many users because the app has been through this before. PTA blocked TikTok in October 2020 over what it called immoral and indecent content, and restored access ten days later after the company promised to act against objectionable accounts. Nothing in this week’s statement points to a new block..
Separately, TikTok’s own Q2 2026 enforcement report puts Pakistan’s April to June takedowns at 23.24 million videos, or 1.1% of what was uploaded. Almost all of them (99.7%) were found by TikTok’s systems before anyone reported them, and 94.5% were gone within a day.
PTA is the body that can order an app blocked across Pakistani networks, which is why a convincing fake spreads fast. The statement was posted on 5 November and does not say who made the document or where it started. It also does not say whether PTA plans any action over its circulation, so for now there is nothing for users to act on.
Before forwarding any “notification” about a ban, check the PTA’s own post on X or its website. A real order would appear there first.
