PlayStation VR2 can no longer be bought from Sony’s own online store in the United States or Japan. Sony has not said whether the headset is being discontinued, and it has not explained why the listings went.
Owners are not affected. The headset keeps working with PS5 games, and with PC VR games through Sony’s adapter. What is changing is how easy it is to buy a new one, and what you may have to pay.
Road to VR tracked Sony’s direct store pages over time and dates the removal to around mid-October. European and UK shops still list the headset as available. Shoppers in Canada, Australia and New Zealand are sent from Sony’s store to outside retailers.
Outside Sony’s own shop the picture is similar. Amazon’s US listings tell the same story: stock of the headset, alone or in the Horizon bundle, started to slip earlier this year and has now all but run out. The only units left at Best Buy and Walmart come from marketplace sellers, with one Best Buy listing at $750.
That is far above Sony’s price. PlayStation VR2 launched in February 2023 at $549.99, and Sony cut it permanently to $399.99 in March 2025. Production was reportedly paused in March 2024 after weak sales, a rumour Sony never confirmed.
Support from Sony’s own studios has been thin for a while. London Studio, which made Blood & Truth for the first PlayStation VR, was closed about a year after launch, and the team behind Horizon Call of the Mountain was cut back. In August 2024 Sony made the headset work with PC VR games, which Road to VR describes as something like a goodwill send-off.
Black Friday is about three weeks away, when retailers normally hold large stocks of products their makers stand behind. Sony’s PS VR2 page is the product’s official home, and a statement from Sony there or in its store is what would settle the question.
