Apple is reportedly planning three more iPad launches in the first half of 2027: a new iPad Air, an iPad Pro and the entry-level iPad. Mark Gurman made the claim in his Sunday Power On newsletter, and Apple has not confirmed any of it.
They would follow the iPad mini with an OLED screen that Apple announced on 27 October, which was the last iPad update of 2026.
What each iPad is expected to get
The biggest change is for the iPad Air, which Gurman expects to move to an OLED display, the technology the mini has just adopted. It presumably gets the M5 chip, though that part is inference rather than a stated spec.
The iPad Pro is the one with the most detail behind it. Gurman expects the M6 chip and a vapor chamber, a sealed plate containing a little liquid that carries heat away from the processor so the tablet can hold its speed for longer during gaming or heavy AI work. Gurman has pointed to this since last year and repeated it in March, describing an iPhone 17 Pro-style cooler for the thin Pro and an M6 that would probably be built on TSMC’s 2-nanometre process. Apple says the vapor chamber in the iPhone 17 Pro gives 40% better sustained performance.
The entry-level iPad, which would be the iPad 12, has no new claims attached. Older leaks give it the A19 (the chip that lets the tablet run Apple Intelligence), Apple’s own N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7, and the C1X modem on models with cellular.
For context, the mini that opened this cycle runs Apple’s A20 Pro chip and, as we noted in earlier posts, has 12GB of RAM and a smaller battery than the iPad mini 7. That leaves the Air, the Pro and the base iPad as the only models still on older designs, which is why each of them gets a headline change in this report: a new screen, a new chip or new cooling.
What is confirmed and what is not
Nothing here comes from Apple. Gurman has not given exact dates or prices, only the half-year window, and the window assumes no model slips.
The timing is also not new. As AppleInsider’s recap shows, Gurman’s reporting in June had four iPad Pro variants lined up for a spring 2027 refresh. By July he put the mini in October, the base iPad in the first quarter of 2027, and the Air and Pro in spring. He restated the base iPad timing in October, and the mini then arrived as predicted.
