Zong hosts PTA, PKCERT and operators for a cybersecurity session

Zong hosted a session in Islamabad during PTA's Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2026, with talks on phishing, SIM fraud and deepfakes.

Key points

  • Zong hosted a cybersecurity session in Islamabad on 28 October.
  • It was part of PTA's Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2026.
  • Talks covered phishing, SIM fraud, deepfakes and securing AI systems.

Zong held an industry session in Islamabad on 28 October during the telecom regulator PTA’s Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2026. Speakers from the regulator, the national cyber response centre and the operator covered phishing, SIM fraud and deepfakes, according to Zong.

Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, PTA’s Member Compliance and Enforcement, was chief guest. Officials from PKCERT, the Ministry of IT and Telecom, other regulators and telecom operators also attended, Zong said in a statement. The week’s theme was “Building a Safe, Secure and Resilient Cyberspace”.

Who spoke, and about what

Zong’s chief technology officer, Mao Weiliang, argued that security has to be built into 5G and AI services from the start. He described the operator’s setup as layered security, access controls and round-the-clock, AI-assisted monitoring, but added that technology alone is not enough: “Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility”, he said.

PKCERT Director General Dr. Haider Abbas spoke about national readiness and coordination between sectors. Brig. Dr. Muhammad Mukaram Khan, who heads CVD at PTA as Director General, spoke too and called for a safer, more resilient digital Pakistan. The release quotes no new rule or programme from either official.

On Zong’s side, Executive Director IT Ali Waqas covered data protection and governance. Head of Information Security Rehan Siddiq talked about using AI to defend networks and about securing AI systems themselves.

What customers will notice

The release names no new tool, service or customer-facing feature. Zong said it ran awareness activity for customers and employees during the week, pushing safer online habits.

The company also framed security as part of its shift to what it calls a Technology Services Enterprise, built around AI-led services.

Zong tied the topic to its growth plans. In its telling, protecting networks, data and digital platforms is what lets people trust online services, and that matters more as first-time internet users come online. The operator said it will keep working with regulators and industry partners on the same goal.

The release does not say whether PTA or PKCERT will issue further guidance from the session, and it gives no figures on attacks, fraud cases or awareness reach. For subscribers, the practical takeaway stays the familiar one: treat unexpected calls, links and SIM-related requests with suspicion and verify them through the operator’s official channels.
