Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 lands 6 November with new DMZ zone

Activision has detailed Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, due 6 November: three launch maps, a Grind mode, the X01 DMZ zone and two new Warzone maps.

Key points

  • Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 goes live on 6 November.
  • Launch brings Backstab, Canyon, Shoot House and the Grind mode.
  • Warzone gets the Hajin and Zodiac maps; DMZ gets the X01 zone.

Activision has set Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for 6 November, the first free content drop since the game’s release. It brings three multiplayer maps, the Grind mode, a fresh DMZ location and two maps for Warzone.

The studio has not said what time the update goes live, and the launch post lists no platform-specific changes. Mid-season content is already planned, so the 6 November drop is only the first half of the season.

Three maps and a dog-tag mode

Multiplayer launches with Backstab, Canyon and a reworked Shoot House. Backstab is a war-torn setting with abandoned tanks, Canyon is built around rock walls, and the new Shoot House is set in snowy North Korean terrain, according to Activision’s Season 1 post on the PlayStation Blog.

The mode to look at is Grind, a points race: you score for your team by collecting the dog tags of players you eliminate and delivering them to the Bank. Drop Zone is back too, a team objective that keeps changing location, with Killstreak supply drops arriving during play.

X01 in DMZ, Hajin and Zodiac in Warzone

DMZ’s new location is X01, a weapons site that enemy forces have just taken over. It has tunnels, shifting hazards and extraction points that close as a match goes on. Season 1 also adds more DMZ Orders, Threat Briefings against Commander bosses and Resupply Runs.

Warzone gets two maps, Hajin and Zodiac. Activision promises extra modes and gameplay features but says a full Season 1 roadmap is still to come.

Battle Pass and weapons

The Battle Pass carries two weapons. One is an assault rifle, the Cronen Osprey; the other is the CSG-35 SMG, which Activision says fires faster than anything else in its class. The pass is a 100-tier linear track with more than 100 items, including operator skins, weapon blueprints and finishing moves.

Anyone who buys the premium pass late is credited automatically with the rewards up to the current day, capped at day 50, and is guaranteed over 50 rewards.

Later in the season

Two more multiplayer maps are held back for mid-season: Ministry, set around a diplomatic embassy, and Overflow, a factory with farmland around it. Counter Attack, a mode where teams plant bombs at the enemy Comm Station while defending their own, comes at the same time.
