Some Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners say Google sent a Pixel 11 Pro Fold in replacement

At least two owners say Google support approved a Pixel 11 Pro Fold for a faulty, out-of-warranty Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google has not confirmed it.

Key points

  • Two Reddit users say Google offered a Pixel 11 Pro Fold for a faulty Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
  • One says the phone was out of warranty; a three-year extended warranty is claimed.
  • Google has not confirmed the swaps or explained the conditions.

At least two Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners say Google support has approved a Pixel 11 Pro Fold to replace a faulty phone that was out of warranty. The accounts come from Reddit, and Google has not confirmed that it is doing this.

One owner says their 256GB Pixel 9 Pro Fold developed a front-camera fault and that Google offered a 512GB Pixel 11 Pro Fold instead, plus a three-year extended warranty. The same owner says the phone was past its standard warranty and had no insurance.

Android Authority found another post on r/PixelFold from more than a week earlier that also describes a Pixel 11 Pro Fold swap. It doesn’t mention the front camera, which the report reads as a hint of a wider replacement arrangement rather than a one-off.

What isn’t known

Two posts are a small sample. Nobody has shown how many owners were offered a swap, what conditions apply, or whether the extended warranty is a general policy. Android Authority says it asked Google to clarify the warranty claim; no reply from Google had been reported when we checked on 30 October.

The publication also found complaints from last year about Pixel 9 Pro Fold front cameras that stopped working, so the fault itself is not new. It is unclear whether the owner who got the swap had the same problem.

Why a 512GB phone?

It is believed to be low stock of the cheaper 256GB models and of Pixel 10 Pro Fold units a reason. That is guesswork; Google hasn’t explained.

Google has swapped in newer phones before: Pixel 5a owners saw it in 2023. If your Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a similar fault, the practical step is to contact Google support and ask, though neither report suggests an outcome is guaranteed.
